So, you're feeling tired all of the time. Or, perhaps a substantial portion of your days are characterised by a low energy state — a condition that has become far too familiar.
You're probably aware the food you eat plays a part; maybe you've already spent time researching vitamins and supplements that will boost energy, and I have a hunch you know the importance of quality sleep and getting a little more active. But did you know that your mind plays a significant role in feeling tired all of the time and having no energy?
Whether you're familiar with this concept or it's entirely new, the solution might be just a few taps away. In the next few minutes, discover how my favourite technique, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) or tapping, can help interrupt the mind's energy-draining patterns.

The ways EFT can help boost energy
Perhaps you've heard about EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), often called tapping. In this blog, I'll use the terms emotional freedom technique, EFT and tapping interchangeably.
Why EFT tapping is my favourite technique
I love EFT tapping for a few reasons:
1. It works fast
2. It quickly halts energy-draining thought patterns and brings about a state of calm (no matter what the topic)
3. It is easy to learn
4. It relaxes both the mind and body at the same time
5. It helps with a host of challenges: fears, phobias, stress, anxiety, physical pain, habit change and more……
6. Best of all, it's a technique anyone can learn to use by themselves, whenever and wherever they need it.

What causes tiredness and low energy?
To understand how EFT tapping can help improve energy, it's essential first to be aware of the reasons for tiredness and low energy levels.
And the answer to that can be very different for each person. A range of factors influences personal energy, and energy mastery involves becoming aware of those factors for you as a unique individual.
Assuming medical checks have ruled out specific health conditions, the first step I recommend is "energy tracking." This reflective process aims to identify precisely what is zapping your energy.
I've categorised potential energy influencers into five main areas as a brief overview:
Nutrition
Food is fundamental to our health and happiness and, in turn, how energised we feel. Giving your body the proper nutrients to support every cell and function is vital for cultivating vibrant energy.
The saying "you are what you eat" holds true; your body is literally composed of the vitamins, minerals, and macro-nutrients derived from the foods you consume. When you're in tune with your body, you'll develop an awareness of the foods that truly help you thrive.
Critical components in your body's energy production processes include gut health and mitochondria, and it is crucial to identify foods that support them.
To delve deeper into understanding the role of mitochondria and the connection between your gut health and feelings of fatigue, explore my blog articles: "5 Tips to Kick Start Your Energy Dynamo" and "What's Your Gut Telling You."
Lifestyle
Lifestyle encompasses a broad spectrum; this article has too many things to delve into fully. In summary, lifestyle factors include exercise, environment, daily occupation, creative outlet, fun, relationships, spiritual connection, learning, and more.
Achieving vibrancy and great-quality natural energy stems from discovering optimal balance. Your personalised definition of a balanced lifestyle is unique to you, but when the fundamental aspects of your life fall out of 'your' equilibrium, it can lead to energy depletion.
Mindset and Emotions
Mindsets are habits of mind, the beliefs, attitudes and assumptions we create about who we are and how the world works[1], which are all made up of thought patterns and habits.
Meanwhile, emotions stem from thoughts. What we are thinking determines our emotional state. There is a direct correlation between high-vibe, happy feelings and personal energy levels.
Therefore, how people manage their emotions and stress, and navigate negative thought patterns significantly influences feelings of vitality.[2]
The intensity of emotions, whether positive or negative, can affect energy when uncontrolled. It's crucial to learn self-regulation, recognise energy-burning emotions, and know how to restore balance. Harnessing emotions to reach a calm state in mind and body is essential for maintaining quality natural energy.[3]

Sleep
Most people are very aware of the significance of sleep in relation to tiredness and energy levels, but do you realise the extent of its impact? Do you wake up tired even after 8 hours of sleep? If yes, this may be because not all rest is equal.
To achieve revitalising sleep, the emphasis has to be on getting enough 'good quality' sleep, not just clocking up snooze hours.
Some may say sleep fits within the lifestyle category. While I agree, I also think sleep deserves its own category due to its profound importance for every system and function in the body.
Habits
Habits infuse all of the categories already mentioned. We form habits within every aspect of our lives, some of which can be energy-fueling and others energy-draining!
Developing awareness of habits can be challenging for some, as by their very nature, habits are often ingrained and, therefore, hard to recognise. The first step to making change of any kind is to be first aware of what needs to be changed.

Meanwhile, back to EFT tapping!
What is Emotional Freedom Technique?
Often referred to as tapping, EFT is a powerful tool for alleviating stress, anxiety, depression[4] fears, and phobias and addressing physical pain.[5]
This mind and body therapy also described as "Psychological Acupressure," targets the root causes of health challenges by clearing energy blockages and interrupting the body's stress response.
EFT can also help change the patterns, habits, and limiting beliefs preventing people from moving forward in their lives.
Combining acupressure with cognitive therapy, EFT draws from ancient Chinese Medicine wisdom and relatively modern cognitive therapies. The technique involves simple tapping, using fingertips, on acupressure points on the body whilst focusing on those issues you'd like to change, heal or release.
It facilitates the body's and mind's innate natural healing abilities by supporting people into resting, relaxing, and healing states—away from stress and fight or flight mode.
EFT stems from the work of Dr Roger Callham in the 1970s, which he patented ‘Thought Field Therapy’. A student of Dr Callham, Gary Craig, simplified the method and added key NLP concepts to create ‘Emotional Freedom Technique’
There are now decades worth of studies demonstrating the effectiveness of tapping for various issues, including PTSD, addictions, trauma, phobias, as well as being used by elite athletes to improve performance.[6]
The beauty of EFT is that it's a tool people can learn quickly and easily to integrate within their own lives, empowering them to take charge of their emotional well-being.
The ways EFT can help boost energy
EFT's versatility allows it to be applied to various depths based on individual needs. As a practitioner, I tailor tapping sessions to address immediate issues affecting a client's energy on that day.
Since thoughts and emotions are major energy zappers, EFT breaks negative thought loops, interrupts stress responses and calms high-intensity emotions. Meanwhile, the technique unblocks energy channels, referred to as meridians in Chinese acupressure philosophy.
EFT tapping Tapping acts like clearing a river's flow, removing the debris and obstacles preventing the water from running smoothly. These obstacles within our energy system cause energy wastage and, over time, add to feelings of tiredness. Stored emotions from unprocessed events and memories contribute to these energy disturbances.
The process brings about mental clarity and revitalises the natural flow of energy within the body.
EFT tapping can also be a tool to help get to the root cause of discomfort, behaviours, habits and patterns. A 1-1 session will often start with a presenting issue and lead back to older events and memories, allowing the root of the presenting symptom to be revealed and cleared.
My clients report feeling lighter, freer, less restricted, energised, happier, calmer and more able to cope with life calmly following a session.
